World's Bizarrest Barbecue Cooker?

Ed has created a massive cuboid artifact which is dubbed the "Barbecue Cooker". What was Ed cooking?

Ed's Strange Radio Experiments

You can still find many of Ed's radio devices in Coral Castle. Ed said "I could hear the music from stars."

The Mysterious Mirror of Ed

There is a strange coral object called "Ed's Mirror". How did Edward Leedskalnin use it?

Why did Ed carve 2 crescents next to Saturn and Mars?

Ed referred to this area as the "Planet Corner". Yet he carved 2 crescent moons. Was Ed Crazy?

Crescent of the East - Large Moon Crescent in Coral Castle

On the north wall of Coral Castle, Ed has carved a huge crescent moon which weighs about 23 tons. But Edward Leedskalnin referred to this area as the "Planet Corner". Moon is not a planet, so what is it doing in the Planet Corner? This makes no sense!

To the left of this large crescent is planet Saturn. Edward Leedskalnin referred to this large crescent as "The Crescent Of The East". What does it mean?

To the right of this large crescent, Ed has carved yet another smaller crescent! Remember, Ed also carved the Moon Fountain in a different area, to represent the moon. Why did Ed carve so many different moons? Did Ed carve multiple moons to impress his Sweet-Sixteen?

Ed must have been very childish indeed, to carve all these various meaningless objects. But he was also able to create a Sundial and a Polaris Telescope!

There is a reason why Ed placed two crescent moons in the 'Planet Corner'. There is a reason why Ed called this large crescent as "The Crescent of the East". To learn more, read Coral Castle: Everything You Know Is Wrong

Repentance Corner at Coral Castle - Edward Leedskalnin's Torture Device?

The most defamatory thing ever said about Edward Leedskalnin is the Repentance Corner. In this corner, Ed has carved 2 holes that look like keyholes. No one knows how this story came about: When Ed was building Coral Castle for his imaginary family, he thought "what if someone misbehaves?” So he carved these 2 holes here, one for his wife and one for his kid.

When they need to be punished, he could shove their heads into these round openings at the top and lock them in with a piece of wood. This was in essence, a medieval stockade. When they stand there motionless in this torturous position, Ed could sit on a nearby stone bench and teach them some manners.

Was Ed nuts to build a coral stockade to punish his imaginary wife and children? Well, after all he did build an eight foot tall barbecue cooker and a coral bathtub for his sweet-sixteen, didn't he? Well, read the book Coral Castle: Everything You Know Is Wrong and you will know why Ed built these strange, inexplicable objects.

Stonehenge Statue at Coral Castle - Homestead, Florida

On the western wall of Coral Castle, Edward Leedskalnin has erected a gigantic T shaped structure made of 2 coral rocks. It is referred to as the Stonehenge Statue. On top of the large vertical stone, Ed has placed a thinner rectangular slice of rock. Ed has glued them together with his 'special lime mortar' to create the desired shape.

All authors, bloggers and tour guides put forth the same theory which goes like this: "Ed created this structure in memory of the Stonehenge in Southern England. If you've visited the Stonehenge, you would have no trouble recognizing this shape." This is astonishing, because the stones at Stonehenge do not look like that at all. All the stones at the top are supported by two vertical pillars, not one. Stonehenge stones look like π (pi), not T. Because of this popular misconception, Coral Castle has even earned the nickname "The American Stonehenge". If it doesn't represent the Stonehenge in England, what else does it represent?

The picture above also shows a mysterious detail. You may not be able to spot it unless you scan it inch by inch. Good luck!

Spiral Water Well - Hidden Secret at Coral Castle, Florida

After moving to Homestead from Florida City, Ed's very first creation was the water well. This is a logical guess, but it makes a lot of sense, because water is a basic necessity. There were no houses or shops nearby back then and Ed never applied for running water. So, he must have dug the well first to do his daily chores.

The well is somewhat spiral in shape, resembling the letter C. Ed has built a wall around the well that is a foot and a half feet high and has carved descending stairs into the well, with 16 steps (sweet-sixteen?). We can see the water about six and a half feet below the ground. The well is about nine and a half feet deep, so there is about 3 feet of water, most of the time.

On top of the well, Ed has placed a cylindrical wooden log, with a metal rod sticking out of it. The purpose of this log is obvious, Ed used it as a pulley to draw water out of the well using a rope and bucket. Ed would have simply rotated the metal rod with one hand to make it even easier.

The water well is one of the most understudied creations of Edward Leedskalnin. Most people think: It is just a water well, what is so special about it? Well, it is not only the most mysterious carving in Coral Castle but also one of the weirdest water wells in the world.

If you have been reading the above paragraphs carefully, the following question should have already popped into your head: "If Ed used a rope and bucket to draw water, why did he create a spiral well with stairs?"

The spiral design with stairs makes no sense because Ed drew water using a rope and bucket. Multiple eyewitness accounts confirm this is how Ed drew water and the pulley (wooden log) is still there as evidence. To draw water from the well this way, all he needed was a regular cylindrical well with a few square feet of area. But Ed had to carve out a much larger area simply because he decided on a spiral well. This means enormous amount of work, because he had to cut a lot more rocks. Why did Ed create a spiral design even though it is a lot of work? He needed the stairs, to directly access the water underground! This is the only logical reason. Why did Ed have to physically touch the subterranean water? Read more at Coral Castle: Everything You Know Is Wrong

1983 Newspaper Clipping about Coral Castle and Edward Leedskalnin

An old newspaper clipping from "The Hour" published on March 15, 1983. It is titled "Monument Puzzles Engineers". It is somewhat interesting to see most of the articles printed in various newspapers contain pretty much the same content with only slight differences. The picture of the 6 year old boy moving the door was also widely circulated in all newspapers.

Coral Castle Massive Megalithic Tower - View From Outside

One of the most overlooked parts of Coral Castle is the tower on South West corner. It contains humongous rectangle stone blocks, most of them larger than other structures of Coral Castle. How did Ed construct this tower by himself? Under this is Ed's tool room which contains many weird gadgets including radio devices, bottles and the magnetic flywheel. On the second floor is Ed's office, where he rested and wrote his books. Click here see what's inside the tower.

These solid coral blocks must weigh tons and tons!

Mystery at Coral Castle by author Joe Bullard

Joe Bullard wrote an excellent book of fiction called "Waiting For Agnes" based on Coral Castle and Edward Leedskalnin.

1983 Newspaper article about Coral Castle and Edward Leedskalnin

A clipping from a newspaper called "Boca Raton News" published on January 13, 1983. A quote from the article: "Scientists and Engineers equipped with computers are still unable to explain how this 5-foot man, who never weighed over 120 pounds, was able to carve a 9-foot gate from a single slab of stone, stand it on end and find the exact center of balance so it can be opened or closed with one finger."

In Search Of The Coral Castle - Superb Documentary

From the TV show "In Search Of", documentary shows various mysterious aspects of Coral Castle and Edward Leedskalnin.

Edward Leedskalnin's Bath Tub at Coral Castle

The tour guides explain this as Ed's bathtub. However, it is too small for any adult to fit inside the tub. The inner tank is less than 4 feet long, so there is no way to lie down inside. When you go to Coral Castle, just try it, it's impossible. Ed never took a bath in the "bathtub", he did it in the backyard. Most people fail to realize that Ed did not live inside the castle walls. There is also a weird object called "Ed's Mirror" near the bathtub.

8 Foot Tall Barbecue Cooker at Coral Castle

Ed has built a massive rectangular megalith with clean cut windows on all 4 sides. It is commonly referred to as the "Barbecue Cooker". The explanation I heard was not impressive: "Edward Leedskalnin used this to cook chicken and hot dogs. He would create a fire in the pit, and insert the food into the differential. Now, we have an air tight vessel (differential) which cooks the food faster and will prevent it from splattering all over the place. Ed imagined his sweet sixteen will come and use this cooker to make him food on a daily basis."
